The Ted Heath band was from England and ironically the words to the song Cherokee were written by Ray Noble (who himself was from England) the song is for an American Indian maiden. The Heath band toured America often and received a ten minute ovation in a 1956 Carnagie Hall performance .

  • Superb musicianship from this British Band -- who cares where they were born!!

  • i thought that reference was clear from the bio!

  • I believe my words were "Ted Heath Band Was From England" not "They Were English" aside, from the symantics, pleased you enjoyed it.

  • Listen to the Saxes in Heath's Flying Home. Whoa!! Awesome!!!

  • It was written for the LP "My Very Good Friends the Bandleaders" by Dave Lindup, who wrote mainly for Johnny Dankworth but contribute loads of jazzier charts for Ted's band. Class acts all round

  • Who wrote the chart? Fantastic! Maybe Johnny Keating?

  • This is one of the few truly great and swinginist big bands. Outstanding arrangements, ensemble work, great soloists and immaculately rehearsed.
