This is a simple example of how you can use mbed (http://mbed.org) to get a microcontroller talking to the internet.

Donatien talks you through the hardware and software he used to get an RFID tag to trigger a tweet. Of course, this is just one example; what the microcontroller is looking for, and the web service it talks to is pretty flexible, so the basic approach could be used for many internet connected ideas.

All the details are at: http://mbed.org/cookbook/RFID-Tweeter

  • very cool use of RFID - just heard about RFID in WSITC.com.au Parramatta who said it was too hard in Australia but this looks doable.

"Humans are inherently inefficient creatures. We leave lights on needlessly, keep the home thermostat cranked up with the windows open, forget to turn off our televisions when we leave the house. "

What's this device going to do, to improve that when it constantly has to be switched on

  • cool video, please consider two things. Making more videos like these and removing the other music video on your site, it adds no value or content and is simply trying hard to be a slick advert...

  • hi I bought all the components as specified, however it dose not appear to work, so I changed the connections to the RJ45 socket and it is now able to send tweets, however only every other time, it is not consistent. What could be the cause?

I am using my laptop and sharing my network. The data sheets of the device I'm using is the one specified in the video.

  • I have bought the components required to carry out this excersise, however the pin connections dont appear to work the way you have specified. I changed the pins to my rj45 and now it is able to send tweets, however not constantly, what could be wrong?one time it will send the next time it wont. Im using my laptop, and sharing my netswork.
