Tutorial and test footage of the track dolly that I made. The track dolly works on almost any terrain and gives depth to the shots, making a video look even more professional.

Instructions for this dolly can be found at:
http://www.buildeazy.com/workshop/track-dolly-1.html

You will notice some slight bumps in the test footage; I believe that I have solved this problem now.

Music is the introduction of "Takk..." by Sigur Ros.

  • It's good but why is it so jittery every once an a while.

  • All signs seem to point to the skateboard wheels. Once possible, we will have to replace those with rollerskate wheels, which are smoother.

  • very good DIY dolly

    5*

How did you do the effect @ 2.45

    thx

  • It's called a dolly-zoom. The camera started out far away from the subject, all the way zoomed in. Then, while dollying towards the subject, you zoom out at the same rate. This way, it appears that the only thing changing is the field of view.

  • mmmm the vieo is shaky when it hit the union of the tubes...

  • its not too bad but it is a bit shakey...i'd say just get two long pieces of pvc instead of hooking them together...

  • @honeybeever thats called the push pull effect.

  • i think ur wheels might be misaligned. I know i was trying something similar out, and if its not straight, the dolly will try to correct itself every few units of distance.

but urs seem like its jittery and shaky the entire time. Those wheels look brand new tho.... I am hesitant to use my old skateboard wheels because they might have small holes in them that might make the dolly jittery

  • yeah i need something more portable as well???

  • @honeybeever great cam quality! What make and model camera did you use??

  • great dolly!!! love it!!!

  • @honeybeever Classic Hitchcock effect. Have not seen that in a while.

  • I need something more ''portable" '-'
