does anyone else think that dev patel (jamal in "slumdog millionaire") would be a good pi patel if they made a movie? very cool that they have the same last name anyway!

there is also the metaphor that orange is survival (the liferaft is orange and saves pi's physical being and richard parker saves pi's mental being)
and when it is present times, the mention of a cat that Pi's daughter holds onto- it is orange
showing how survival instinct has stayed with him; even after all this time

did anyone else get the allusion to the bible when richard parker jumped over him in a fleeting furred rainbow? HE WAS TALKING ABOUT NOAHS ARK! when god sent the rain bow to noah who was on the ship with animals. i literally just go that. how trippy!

the idea behind the animal metaphors is to make you think
is it acceptable to kill if necessary?
are we all animals really?
is society the only thing stopping such horrid acts?
are humans to be considered above animals because of our morals, and are we still fit for this superiority if we still kill- but only after a delayed period?

im doing my higher personal study on it
discussions would be appreciated

very good questions. my take on it is humans are indeed animals, because we kill not only animals but other humans every day. what I find interesting between the two stories is at least with the story of the animals, there are two beings that actually end up getting along! with the humans, everyone but pi dies. as far as society goes, it is a two sided blade. people in power are trying to stop homicides while at the same time are bombing other countries, most of the time in the name of God

it wasnt the fact that he Wanted to embrace all religions, he just wanted to stretch out so he may love god even more

I think it's because you have to take a leap of faith to believe in the story with the tiger in it, and that leap of faith is comparable to that which religious people take. So he's saying if you can have faith in the truth of this story (the animal version) it proves that it's possible to have faith in God.

im pretty sure the animal version wasnt the truth. There were two stories we heard, and after he was interviewed by the japanese men, he says, the end result is the same, i lost all of my family, anyways, its whatever you want to hear. This choice is how he feels about religion. It is all about loving god, no matter what
