As climbing petroleum prices squeeze household and business budgets across the nation, the demand for alternative fuels also climbs. For most people, technology leaves few options: Drive less or pay more. Some create their own alternative — biodiesel. Made from fats, biodiesel is efficient, safe and environmentally friendly.

Lawrence, Kansas residents use old restaurant grease to fuel their vehicles...and the cause.

  • Its actually just as efficient as regular diesel there circus. Same proformance, and same if not better engine life. AND IT IS CARBON NEUTRAL! I agree with datzfast I think you are the only person in the world who dosent lol

  • everyone knows biodiesel is carbon neutral so ruin the planet by using real diesel with increased planet co2 production.

  • everyone but you knows biodiesel is carbon neutral, i doubt you even thought of that before using the co2 card. but i dont care myself if it was carbon neutral or not. but you do so i say to you go ahead and ruin the planet with real diesel

  • puts out just as much co2 if not more because it's inefficient. it also wears out your eninge and injectors prematurely if not used properly. considered to be a biohazard in many places. I"m far from closed minded.

  • so what your point, its completely digestible and so it doesnt pollute any thing, any unburned oil gets digested by bacteria and fungus. dont be a closed minded fool. did you know a biodiesel spill is considered non toxic. Not only that the heat or British thermal units are great enough to power a car

just as far and experts say because of the extra lubrication the engine lasts longer. as if diesel engines did not already last longer in the first place.

  • biodiesel has nowhere the amount of btu that real #2 diesel has and therfore pollutes more than #2 because you have to burn more of it to achieve the same thing.

  • You are confusing BioDiesel and SVO ! This video is about SVO ( Straight Vegetal Oil ) ; Not the same !

  • A prevention to the problem of clogging is to avoid using 100% biodiesel. A good grade ASTM B99 biodiesel is better, still will require changing filters aft 300 or 400 miles until the fuel system rids of residuals. That will not degrade the fuel injectors. I have seen a 275,000 miles old mercedes benz run in biodiesel for the past 7 years. Car engine and exhaust is very clean.

The common problem in older pre 1992 engines is the degradable rubber seals. Those must be changed to nondegradable.

  • Only problem is life of the fuel injection system is degraded over time. Works best in older diesels as tolerances and fuel quality is not quite such a factor for combustion.
