David South is a professor of Forestry and presented a 1-hour talk on the subject of deforestation and climate change. In his talk, he provided the audience with several "virtual lectures" from climate modelers. On such lecture was given by Dr. Ken Caldeira, Carnegie Institution, Department of Global Ecology, Stanford, California. Dr. Caldeira was named one of "New Scientist's" eight "Science Heros of 2008" for his leadership in science-based approaches to geoengineering. In 2007, he and others published a paper entitled "Combined climate and carbon-cycle effects of large-scale deforestation."
