Two-one: it is a score line Sunderland fans have grown to love in recent years.

The Black Cats' last three wins over Newcastle, their big rivals from 12 miles up the
Road, have all been 2-1 victories.

But this one was the first at home it was a special day in the club's recent history.

Sunderland had only beaten Newcastle in one of their previous 17 meetings on home
Soil-that being a 1-0 win on April 5 1980 in the old Division Two.

Their last top-fight victory over the Geordies in front of the home faithful was 3-0 on
March 4 1967, so the home first half, and Kieran Richardson gave Sunderland's fans
The one thay wanted.

It was deserved victory for Roy Keane's side dominated the first 30 minutes
During which time Cisse, who is fast becoming the darling of the Wearside faithful,
Handed Sunderland the lead.

The French striker stabbed home Steed Malbranque's cross to nose the home side had

Sunderland were handed a free-kick right on the edge of the area after Nicky Butt had
Tripped El-Hadji Diouf as he charged into the box.

Richardson stepped up to smash a free-kick past Shay Given and into the top corner, it
Sparked a massive celebration in the Stadium of Light.

Cisse, producing arguably his best performance for the Black Cats, nearly made it 3-1

Had a second-half shot saved from Shay Given.

It was a day of positives for Sunderland fans-not least when Kenwyne Jones
Emerged from the substitutes' bench in the 57th minute, and big striker went close
With a header soon after.
The final whistle sparked mass celebrations among the home supporters-many of
Whom were not even born the last time Sunderland had beaten Newcastle on home
turf.
