4/12/2008: Why Is This NYC Anon Afraid?

In an effort to raise awareness of the "Church" of Scientology's destructive disconnection practices and reunite friends and families separated by the organization for "Operation: Reconnect," New York City anons held a party in Central Park with food, speakers, and music.

Here, a fellow anon tells us why he is afraid to tell his father, a Scientologist, about his involvement with the hive mind.

I know it is true and totally agree with his opinion. I just think he sounds like a whiner in this video. Just keep loving your Dad. Give him a space to talk about Scientology without judgment (don't avoid the conversation), ask lots and lots of open ended questions. Let him stumble over the internal contradictions himself.

Nevermind everybody, I just watched the whole thing again and I guess I wouldn't be giving the best speech in the world if my father's life was in danger. If you know anything about public speaking you will see why this video is bad. The last thing this cause will need is speeches that are contrived, have zero finesse, and show a lot of shaky, fearful anger. This speech, in my opinion, hurts our image, muddles it's message in emotion. I want this to succeed, but we need to keep control for that.

I was revising myself because I believe somebody shed light on the fact that this anon had changed the motto to suit his message, and not copied it verbatim. We anons better believe, and completely fear for the life of the anti-C$n cause, that videos like this will almost instantly be labeled as whiny college crap by any outsider. For every movement that succeeds tons of them just get labeled, stamped for shunning, and effectively shutdown. I hope it doesn't happen this time.

I'm sorry you totally lost me. I was replying to AnonNation. I said my viewpoint was free speech. I never said he didn't have the right to question because it would be idiocy. He asked the Q & I can't really stop him. I did say it's all free speech; yours included. And mine, as well. I'm talking about free speech. $cn is against free speech. But again, I don't know what problem you have with what I said. Please explain, if you like. :)

I did watch it until the end and I thought that it was somebody else who had already put the new spin on the motto. If he in fact the one responsible for the innovation the kudos and it gives me much more respect for his whole speech. Like I said, I am totally for his view, but I just don't want us to start looking like just another bunch of whiny college kids.
