The parent-child relationship is emotionally charged from the moment a person is born. But it becomes especially complex when your single parent is mentally unstable, as is the case for filmmaker Tara Wray.

In her first film, Wray travels to rural Kansas in an attempt to reconnect with her mother, Evie, for the first time since Evie's psychotic breakdown five years earlier. She finds a parent still chasing her demons, both real and imagined, struggling to make a career for herself as an abstract artist and searching for the Geodetic Center of the United States, the finding of which, Evie says, will bring about world peace.

When Tara takes it upon herself to help in her mother's search, it sets into motion a surprising chain of events that may just rescue Evie from a catastrophic fate and help Tara reconcile with her mother on different terms.

Small towns in Kansas have 2-300 people, not over 50,000. I find that description completely infuriating.

This doesn't even take place in manhattan, looks more like rural Riley or Pottawammee County.  Manhattans a college town, not some dirt road with a few cows.

I wonder why it is called Manhattan, KS , does it take place there? I don't see a picture of Bill Snyder stadium, Aggieville, KSU campus, NBAF construction or even Tuttle Creek lake?

To the previous commenters and anyone else who is wondering: This film is not about the town. It's about a relationship between a mother and daughter. I just saw it and it's outstanding.

i live here in manhattan and yes it is small. its much smaller than wichita, topeka, and kc isn't it? stupid to argue about whether or not this shit hole of a town is small or not.

I miss manhattan. Its not a small town either. Much fun!!!! Would like to see the whole documentary. :)
