Jak, is the reflowing repair temporarily?
-
question...
how was it blowing out cold air?
wasnt it supposed to blow out hot air?
-
OMG I HOPE I didn't fry mine, I turned it off right away, I am going to remove the paste and do exactly this!!

@jakthebomb Even if you were a professional you could still make a mistake.. oh wait you did...
Seeing as you asked: Thermal compounds are less thermally conductive than the metal on the chips+heatsink, its purpose it to improve the contact between these two already touching surfaces and not really to transfer heat over any significant distance. Hence unusual/odd or fishy

@desipimp03 smae thing happened to me, but the ps3 does boot up it even gives me a warnign that the ps2 is getting hot and its going to dhut itdelf down any ideas?

hey jake, i just fixed the YLOD on the my ps3 today, but then i realized that after about 45 seconds increments the fan speed would just keep increasing and increasing, by 7 minutes it sounded like my ps3 was ready to take off on me, also it was blowing cool air aswell. My question is that is having too think a layer of thermal paste the only reason this can be happening? Oh and i used a nexxtech heating compound silicone based, it was the only one i could find anywhere close to my house.

Alright then well thanks for the tip, i also didnt mind that video about kiss ass consumers your were 100% right about that great vids man..
Hold on, are you saying there is a very small gap between the chips and the heat sink?!! That sounds fishy, the heat sink and chips should be pressed together tightly with a thin layer of thermal compound acting as the conductor between the two. Im sure you know this already so im asking doesnt it seems more likely you didnt quite re-seat it correctly? You did say yourself in part one "This design is really strange, I'm not used to this design..."

@Edox101 how does that sound fishy? actually if you were present when i was doing the repair you would notice that there is a significant gap between the Chips and the Heatsinks. I do this for a living and as a professional, i did not put it together wrong.

alright cool cheers also another question i have had the ps3 for arround 2-3 years now and have noticed an increase in heat being released from the back of the console is that normal or is something wrong?. because it never really got hot i would say the last couple of months it has been really heating up...

@SpEaKeRfReAk123 No, the Artic silver 5 is more efficient than the original paste Sony puts on.
jakthebomb 2 years ago
Yeah i figured that out but why is it over time becoming more and more hot?.
SpEaKeRfReAk123 2 years ago
@SpEaKeRfReAk123 Newer games utilize more of the systems processing power. The Launch games don't really do much to pressure the system's cooling system.
