The fat bank zombie and his pet alligator is one of my favorite little scenes from this movie. I always wondered, is it saying that's a zombie alligator? Wouldn't a normal alligator eat a zombie? Or vice-versa? It raises a lot of questions.

@44excalibur mmmmmmmmm let' see..the brains and the nervous system are still alive and active , perhaps there is a residual cellular activity near the nerves that slow down the effects of the decay. the reanimated bodies are infected too and nobody touch them even fungi and bacterias. The disease only works with the developed brains of the human beings that why animals don't zombiefed.

@criceto Whatever bacteria is reanimating the corpses cannot arrest the rate of decay, it can only delay it. When the body cannot produce calcuim it prevents the myosin and actin filaments in the muscle cells from retracting and protracting because the myosin heads can no longer detach from the actin, causing rigor-mortis. This is why zombies can't run(this means you, Zack Snyder) and why their bodies will eventually break down and fall apart the more they attempt to use their motor functions.

@criceto It seems like Dr Logan implies that the zombies eventually do just run out of energy and drop over-- And there's a shot of a decayed corpse in the mall parking lot of DAWN OF THE DEAD that I always took as meaning that the zombies don't last forever-- Though LAND OF THE DEAD kind of contradicts that notion,

@GoblinXXX the infection that nearly stops the decay killing even the bacteria is the only "non supernatual" explanation..another detail :

zombies do not digest the food but where they find the energy to move around?

@criceto You could have a bit of a point there. You don't see nearly the amount of FLIES you might expect to in these films, and can you imagine what crows, ravens and seagulls would do if they got wind of a group of walkers?

@XREMIX92 Not only do gators EAT rotten meat, they prefer it. They stick large kills like deer carcasses under logs or in holes under water to allow them to rot and soften so they can tear them apart easier. However, alligators also don't eat very often, being cold blooded, one big meal can last them a month o more, so maybe the ol gator just ain't hungry!

Alligotrs dont eat rotten meat, i dont think.

So i guess that was just a normal alligator chilling in the treats as they were abandoned for so long.
