What about Dell's crappy batteries that completely die after a year? My battery on my Dell Inspiron 1501 is now dead after I replaced it again. And then Dell charges $100 for a new one, with about the same amount of life. I'd rather pay a lot for a good battery instead of paying a lot for the same one that I threw away.

apple says that the new macbook pro 15 inch gets 7 hours of battery life with wi fi on and surfing the web.
I usually get 6 hours of that, but it's great to have such a long lasting battery

Yes, I completely agree with you. It took a while for me to realize that one. Yeah, mobile computing, if you bring a power cabel.
Once you get to know the numbers, you'll know that wifi, bluetooth, screen brightness, even hard drive use each knocks an hour off when in constant use. It is an annoyance, but all we consumers seem to be able to do is rant anyways.
Oddly though, my gaming laptop has 1.5 hours of battery life when gaming and 1 hour of life when its not. I wonder why?

Yes! And once we get that rating in place, let's go for a benchmark for battery mortality. Charges/discharges, whatever.

wow, thats pretty bad battery life. it's like the SUV of laptops as far as power goes.

that is better than mine I am suppose to get 6 and I get maybe 2 1/2 even wit blue tooth turned off, sadly things like WIFI and my mouse I need all the time there really needs to be a better measurement listing, not to mention my dvd player but I think I got ripped with that all around.
