The Canadian Labour Congress is asking people to send postcards to the prime minister telling him to take action now to end violence against women, including keeping the gun registry.Barbara Byers, CLC Executive Vice-President, says, "We want the government to keep the long gun registry and to take action on a range of issues that will help to keep women safe."

I AM A UNION MEMBER AND DO NOT SUPPORT THE GUN REGISTRY OR ANY OTHER OVERLY RESTRICTIVE LEGISLATION(EX. restricted/prohibited classess) I feel for the families of those killed at ecole -polytec and elsewhere. BUT the gun registry is useless and will not stop senless acts of violence like that.

I didn't give the CLC the mandate to use my dues in this manner. How about working to keep jobs in this country not penalizing lawful people, many of which are union members

According to StatsCanada, guns were involved in less than 1 out of 1000 domestic disputes in 2008. The exact number was 34. Thats a tiny part of the domestic violence issue.

How does a piece of paper stop a mad man from commiting mad acts?

The gun regsitry will be abolished. The moneu can then be put towards all those causes the woman in the video mentioned.

It sounds like the CLC is just parroting the Coaltion for Gun Control's propaganda. In other words that of a lobby group tied to Chretien-era financial shenanigans. So my question is, what are the CLC getting for their support?

Thanks for wasting my hard earned union dues on this useless campaign. As an I.A.M. member I would call on you to stop this campaign & to reflex on your true responsibilities to the people who pay 'your' wage with their work. Quit fear mongering & commit to the original task that you were founded on. Gun control is not your job! & not what you were originally founded for. The fashion in which speak, spells volumes to your true end goal. Unfortunately, Woman's rights are not one of them...

How exactly does the fact that a gun is registered stop one human being from assaulting another?

I can't believe the level of stupidity shown by adults who support the registry.

Yes violence aginst women is wrong, but violence aginst all people is wrong, but you are only saying violence aginst women is wrong.

So, I ask you. Is violence against men ok then?

You are more likey to be killed in a car accident then killed by a firearm, yet I hear no cryout for the banning of cars, or stricter controls on the usage of cars/trucks.

I am in favor of freedom of speech for all, even those that disagree with me.
