Brainstorm is a software under development by iRobis. Brainstorm works without any prior knowledge of the robots mechanical configuration. Brainstorm starts by querying the robot what actuators and sensors are available. That information is used in the next step to learn some basic behaviors, like move forward, move backward and turn. Brainstorm tries to map actuator outputs to these movements. Generally it can learn how to move along and turn around all three axes, but in this case only turning around the z-axis and moving along the x-axis is applicable, due to the robots mechanical configuration. The basic behaviors are learned by using machine learning and automatic modeling whit genetic programming.
When Brainstorm masters the basic behaviors, it starts to explore the world. After explore is executed it builds a map using SLAM and from that a Topological map. This film shows the first time this is successfully executed.
