Civilian life in the North enters a new era with the total elimination of terrorism. The Jaffna City is becoming populace as other areas of the South.
In a report, Our Representative Aruna Jayakody said the civilians of Jaffna can now secure their daily requirements at a reasonable price as the civilians in Colombo and the Southern areas do. Goods and vegetables are reaching the Jaffna main market with the opening of the A-9 Highway. The businessmen claim that the market has expanded.
Almost every item sold in other towns is now available in the Jaffna City at the same prices. Civilians in the outskirts of Jaffna do not face obstacles in reaching the City to purchase their requirements as expanded transport facilities available. Even goods are also transported by road. As a result, the Jaffna businessmen said the market has expanded.
The traders said unlike during the war, prices of commodities have declined. Vegetable prices have also come down. The people in the surrounding areas are engaged in cultivation as their produce can be despatched on the A-9 Road. Their economic status is good.
The civilians who were in the habit of purchasing their requirements at exorbitant prices due to terrorism, have heaped praised on the Government for the new environment that is prevailing in the area. The needs of the civilians are being frequently inquired into under the supervision of Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa who is also the chief of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and on the instructions of the President.
