I believe it was 1984 and 85 possibly into 86 the Cubs actually had the opening to Van Halen's Jump as the background music as Marty McNeely did the commercial intros I don't know since WGN until recently was real picky about what could be or couldnt be posted!

@Spr463 One other thing to point out, notice by the "9" logo that WGN-TV used at the time, it states "Forty Years." In 1988, WGN-TV celebrated 40 years on-the-air and even had a 2-hour special to commerate the milestone with a special host, Geraldo Rivera.

I remember this theme very well.1988 was also the year that Wrigley Field had lights installed and the Cubs began playing home games that August. In fact, WGN-TV for the few night home games played this season and the following season had a different intro, similar to this one, but showing Wrigley at night.
