  • i'm learning this piece, can you give me some advice on how to play it?

  • There are various challenges to this piece...

    I would...

    1. practice the song hands separate a lot at first. The left hand part is rather tricky (with the big leaps and such).

    2. listen carefully to the tone production. It should sound cantabile (singing tone). Try not using pedal at first and practice legato.

    3. beware of the pedaling (especially during the codetta m.18-19)

I hope that helps! Good luck!

  • are you talking about the part at 1:58 in this video? i keep having trouble there too. i just make the first two notes of the eight part longer so its like eighth notes over a triplet and then the six remaining notes in the right hand are twice as fast as the three notes in the left. thats how i play it because the eight notes over six confuses me. hopefully this part was what you were talking about.

  • Performing this on Sunday evening ~chruch Christmas concert, ~ listening to this im wondering about adding a little bit more Rubato it helps me to relax and see the next bars.

~ as for the 6 over 8 split it in the half, 3 over 4 and 3 over 4 again, gradually bring them together when your happy!

  • One of those musicians who in effect introduced a form to the world. When you think about it thatt is a huge achievement. Chopin is the master of the night but Field is the mentor.

  • this is a wonderful piece, and you played it very good!

  • @jjbinks3 ya i thought so too! the beginning part...

  • you got a lot of emotion in this song :) keep up the great work!

  • @jjbinks3 that is to say, the beginning chord progression is nearly identical

  • excellent

as an aside, some of the music from Kiki's Delivery Service sounds like this piece

  • @SepiaLatimanus

Haha, ignoring the fact that Chopin wasn't even born until Field was in his late 20's...

Field is credited with creating the nocturne, and it's known that Chopin studied Field's work, not the other way around, though both are great composers in their own right.

  • @SepiaLatimanus Chopin was influenced by Fields. Field was the first to write Nocturnes.
