San Diego City is currently undergoing redistricting to ensure the fair representation of its people, taking into consideration population changes and communities of interest determined by ethnicity, shared languages, common social, economic and political interests. Redistricting is done only once every 10 years, and the Asian population in San Diego has never had an Asian-empowered district. Asians make up 16% of the population while African Americans 6.2%, LGBT 4.8% and they each have their own empowered district. San Diego hasn't seen a full Asian American city council person in over 50 years. And San Diego is the only major city in California to have ZERO Asian American elected officials. APAC is a grassroots organization fighting for the fair representation and empowerment of San Diego Asian Pacific Islanders.
