Footage from the 2010 Irish National Club Championships. This game was from the last round and sees Rory Quinn (White) of Ennis Chess Club needing a win to secure his team second place and the prize of a place in the European Club Team Championships. It was a tense affair with many onlookers.
Playing Black was the now current Irish Chess Union Chairman; Jonathan O Connor who emerges victorious against the then ICU membership officer who resigned from the ICU earlier this year. No signifigance, but just a curious set of amusing coincidences.
In the end, despite not winning their place at the European Club Team Championships Ennis Chess Club were able to avail of a place when the top two winners of the NCC decided not to send a team in the end.
