On the 17 July 1920, Colonel Smyth was assassinated by the IRA in Country Club in Cork city for making a speech to RIC men encouraging the murdering of Irish civilians during the war of Independence. Smyth was from Banbridge, County Down and his killing provoked sectarian retaliation in the north against Catholics in Banbridge and Dromore.

In his speech to the RIC Smyth said that innocent people with their hands in their pockets should be shot on sight..

When Irish rugby star Ronan O'Gara met the British queen recently he kept his hands in his pockets, many people seen it as an act of defiance to British authority dating back to Symth's oder.

  • one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter..(very true when it comes to the thief's of land that never belonged to them)

If i stole, for example, your car and drove it freely around the streets, that does not make it my car(no matter how much time has passed)

  • This takes place 4 years after the 1916 Easter Rebellion has occured....3 years after Jones song her song about the Easter uprising. These were the English gov trying to keep control of a country that has for 2 centuries prior has tried to become a free nation under God. It has no meaning. All english deaths into the 20th century are were caused by the english gov....Remember, this is the same English gov. that brought down the chinese royal government in order to sell opium.

  • @TomBarry192I The burning of a street in cork.

  • @Seamus322 Lost as well probably........

  • Sounds like nothing changed when the RIC became the RUC, (B-Specials, UDR and RIR also for that matter) and they dare to call you a terrorist, while they look down their guns!

  • It sounds like they got John Cleese to do Smythe's voice....BTW, thx for the upload...my grand da fought the Tans, too....

  • Dirty English bastards.!!!

  • The fucking arrogant fucking bastard should have been beaten senseless.

  • They should have tortured the bastard first ..

  • i didnt think cork boys were capable of a smooth line like that, they'd probably been rehearsing it for days n'all ;) :L
