Ira Stanphill Songs

These are my favorites of another wonderful Christian composer, Ira Stanphill. Dr. Stanphill pastored for a long time in Texas. Many Sunday night services he would treat his people to another wonderful "new" song which he had written. I'm sure few of them dreamed the "new" song they were hearing would become another Christian classic that would be sung millions of times for several generations. I can remember my mother and father, Ben and Reva Townsend, singing these as a duet at church when I was just a small child. "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" I memorized while my parents practiced it on the way to Calvary Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana back in the 50's and 60's. Thank you, Bro. Ira, for giving yourself to serve the Lord so that you could be used to write such marvelous, God-glorifying songs. Enjoy your Rest wth the Lord in Heaven.

Thank you for the post, touched me. This was my pastor when I was growing up in Fort Worth. I was raised at Rosen Height A/G, when I had gotten away from the Lord, Pastor Stanphill would come visit me, and pray with me, I'll never forget that. The youth director at Rosen Heights in 69, was Dallas Holm. There's a lot of history there. Blessings.

I attended Westridge Baptist in Fort Worth, and we would often go to Rockwood Park AG to hear Ira's music. Loved the New Years eve services with others like John and Theta Hall. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
