Yes. This is XCOM. They are also making a game called XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Both games are set in different universes. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a TBS/RTS hybrid based on the original game of that name. XCOM is set in the 1960s, has little to no relation with the original series as it goes for an X-Files vibe, and is an FPS. Now. I don't think XCOM will be a bad game. It just shouldn't have been called XCOM.

The funny thing is... if they had just renamed this game and didn't connect it to Xcom in any way, it would have been a cool game from the looks of it, considering it wouldn't be ruining such a great game.

I think the crucial distinction to make, for me, is that this isn't really X-COM. Not as I know and love it. I grew up with turn-based strategy, base-building elements and a top-down perspective. So obviously, this doesn't really seem to me like a traditional X-COM. But this doesn't look like a bad game per se. I don't dislike first person shooters, and I love the 50s setting for this. Just because it isn't X-COM doesn't mean it can't be fun at all. I'll probably end u buying this regardless.

You know, I could probably have liked the old one with the black tar blobs. You fought and investigated until shit started to hit the fan. Then you had to flee out of the suburbs and get back to base.

There was no cover-based shooting, no crystal-like enemies. Ehh.
