The challenges presented by disability and it's relationship with sexuality are seldom explored and just as rarely known to those who have not had to confront them. Gary Karp will come to Sonoma State to share the obstacles to intimacy that he has encountered while living with disability and the story of the methods he has discovered enabling him to overcome them. Having been a wheelchair user since 1973, He draws from his personal experiences through which he has learned to cope with the obstacles and used them to discover new connections to intimacy that everyone can enjoy. Karp puts disability into a historical context and delves into the sensitive questions surrounding sexuality and intimacy faced with such daunting obstacles.

  • I love this guy! he says everything I'd want to say without getting angry =P

  • PS.....I love the fact that there is someone out in the world like this guy. There wasn't anyone when I was in my late teens and through to my 30's who did this. I had NO ONE to talk to about these kinds of things that knew what they were talking about and was too afraid to even ask someone about it. Great job, whoever you are. :)

  • Belly-laughed and clapped at about 1:05:20. Also, when he talks about congenital disabilty at 15:00 (in my case CP) THAT IS SO TRUE. He takes the words from my mouth. How comforting?

  • Check out the IntimateRider for information on improving sexual function for men with SCI

  • I can best describe Gary's lecture as: Informative, Mature, Candid, Eloquent, Positive, Constructive, Humorous and Helpful beyond anything else I've been exposed to. It is beneficial for disabled individuals as well as able-bodied individuals alike. I will use this information in the future. Signed, A paraplegic male since '74 and still learning.
  • This was really really helpful and informative - thank you for your frankness and realism
