Glad I found this. My buddies and me were just below the Devils Playground. The year? 1962. We had a transistor radio to hear the start. You could hear the Fords when they started, but the Chevys had to get up the hill a ways. Bad year for the Unsers. A pickup camper backed out in front of Pa Unser at the start and the 61' 409 bubbletop tore it up. Then Parnelli Jones with his 62' Ford Galaxie 406(might have been a wee bit bigger) beat the Unsers, Al and Lou jr. takes a big set to run the hill!

Yo Greg, if your new V6 makes 550 hp at sea level, how much is left up on Pike's Peak? Is that a turbo V6 or atmo? I didn't know that the Ford 4.0 (ex 2.9) could make 500+ hp safely.

Reno, Yes the horsepower is corrected to sea level. It is a normally aspirated engine. It's not a 2.9, or a 4.0. It is not related to either. Back when the Nascar Busch Grand National series was running V6 Engines, Ford was making a 4.5 Liter V6. It looked like a 351W with 2 cyl. missing. HP est. depend on temp., dew point, etc. Start Line Altitude @ 9,000 ft. est. horsepower about 70%, the finish line 14,110 ft., est. horsepower 56% give or take. I hope this was helpful. Thank you.

how hard was it to put that motor into your truck?

This was far from a stock Ranger. The engine was set back so far, the wing nut for the air cleaner was directly under the cowl. The dash and the rest of the interior was gutted and rebuilt around the engine. There was only 1 seat as the exhaust went out the right door. I do have a Ranger with a 302 (check my other videos). Could a Cleveland fit? Perhaps, It would require a lot of fabrication, but it could be done. The challenge is going to be in the depth of the engine compartment and headers.
