Google sponsored the Green Flight Challenge 2011. The competition was organized and conducted by the CAFE Foundation, and NASA funded the $1.65 million prize purse, the largest in aviation history. The contestants were challenged to fly 200 miles in less than two hours using the energy equivalent of just 1 gallon of gas or less per occupant.

The competition ran September 25th to October 3rd at the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport, and on October 3rd there was an expo hosted at Moffett Field, NASA.
