Kees van Eersel (*1944,Vlaardingen, Netherlands) received a varied education at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Utrecht in the sixties. In 1971 he was awarded the Prize of Excellence under the supervision of André Verwoerd. In 1969 he studied at the Parisian Schola Cantorum with Jean Langlais, he was awarded the Prix de Virtuosité with highest distinction.
After his appointment in 1974 as choirmaster and organist of the Grote or Maria Magdalenakerk in Goes he founded the Maria Magdalenacantorij and started studying to be a carilloneur at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort. There he obtained the practical diploma under the supervision of Leen ´t Hart and the final diploma under the supervision of Peter Bakker. Shortly after that he was appointed to the post of town carilloneur of Zierikzee and Veere. In addition to his work as a performing organist and carilloneur he is the director of the Zeeuws Vocaal Ensemble, founded by him in 1988. Kees van Eersel has been awarded many prizes and distinctions at the international organ competitions of Bruges, Arnhem, St. Albans, Innsbruck and Linz. Various records as well as CD recordings have been made of his performance. In 1992 he published a manual, "Chorale Improvisation".
