Several shots of D9303.

As D9303 releases it's brakes, Q174-27 comes by with my favorite ES44DC on the roster.

D9303 can finally start moving south, blowing his great K5LA horn for the grade crossing,

2 minutes later, CSX Q418-28 moves out of the yard after some switching, there's that faded GEVO 5361 again...

  • The crackeling sound is the normal operation of the brake system. It's used to keep the moisture out.

  • @MentalBreakagePwn Q174 doesnt run through sandpatch

  • Q174 runs through Fostoria, Ohio. lol We just call it the Sandpatch Tunneler train.

  • thatisthe pop off valve which keeps water out of the air line on the loco

  • Those ES44DC & CW44-8/9 are some real beasts aren't they? The other comments that I have made regarding the emergency stop of the passenger train comes from 25 years of railroading most of it as the conductor. I am not a know-it-all and could be wrong, if someone has something that they can refute what I have said I am more than willing to 'eat crow'

  • That weird cracking noise probably is a steam leak. If you look between any two passenger cars you'll find two separate air hoses on each car, one carries air from the engine to each car which activates the trains main brake and the other carries steam from the engine Not really sure why. On a freight train there is only one hose and it carries air for the trains brakes. Should the train come apart or the hoses come apart it disrupts the flow of air which activates the brakes

  • I don't know what caused this train to go into emergency but it certainly didn't kick the governor which is what regulates the maximum speed, unless he did so maybe 3/4 of mile back and came to an emergency stop in front of you.

  • oops, that is a pretty lucky catch, nice video
