at my old hardware store job, there was an Otis hydraulic fright elevator probably installed in the early 30's. Had three landings, an 8 inch piston, large water
hydro tank, 5HP 3 Phase motor. Sometimes the water level dropped a bit
pump did not prime. Fill her up! A nearby SH Kress had a fright elevator
(as seen video) but smaller 2:1 overhead traction.

@LemonStamp Not really, that elevator is perfectly safe, and has been so since it was installed around 1930.

Is that the one in the tunnel under Elmwood?

It was on the lower level. I'm not a student there, so I wouldn't know its relationship to the tunnel system.
