So true. And the sad fact is, 99.95% of these former addicts will eventually fall back into their old habits.

Cracking observation and pretty funny to boot. That said Sayle was one of those comics who was quite patchy overall in my view. He could be really funny sometimes and other times his gags or sketches fell flat on their face. But when he did hit the mark he did hit it dead on!

Yeah he writes novels and short stories...
The short stories:
Barcelona Plates and the Dog Catcher both have some amazing stories.
The Novels:
Overtaken (my favorite)
Weeping Women Hotel (good)
Mister Roberts (OK)
He is also putting out a book this year on growing up in Liverpool called 'Stalin Ate My Homework' - he gave a public lecture at UoL on that - but he didn't really come across very well :(
