Agreed regarding hitting the charts...but "One in a million you" is a great ballad, and is considered a classic.
"Earthquake" is an amazing song, hands down.....And I also love "I feel good" & "Sooner or later" (I love synth bass and reverb)
True, Larry was influenced by sly, but who isn't influenced by somebody else? That in itself doesn't make Larry a lesser artist than sly.
As for this performance...anything Nikka is one will grab my attention these days.

I love Prince's musicianship but he appears to have lost his groove... he used to bring it hard. He's recorded some awesome vamps recently though - Beautiful, Love and Blessed is kinda gross! Boom on the LotusFlow3r disc is scary awesome! But he used to drop bombs all the time - he seems a bit bored.

@SPAZZOID100 Larry Graham's thing was definately its own thing but the influence that Sly had is all over the Graham Central Station thing. As far as hitting the charts is concerned, I'd imagine both you and I can agree that hitting the charts isn't necessarily the best indication of the power of music or art for that matter.
This performance by Prince, the NPG, Nikka and Larry is absolutely not my cup of tea but you obviously enjoy it. I'm happy for you. Vamps aren't limited to funk btw!

I don't know if that is a good analogy. Mazerati's material was solely written and arranged by Prince, and Larry Graham was his own thing entirely, and was able to stand on his own and funk the hell out of thangs, and even churn out some ballads that hit the charts.
This performance with Larry, Prince, & Nikka is anything but boring. In funk, this is known as a "vamp", and it's a darn good one at that.

@SPAZZOID100 I guess perspectives are perspectives... everyone has one and it's all good! I suppose someone out there thinks that Mazarati's record is far more interesting than Prince's entire catalogue.
Nikka Costa is the most underrated soul/funk vocalist of all time..and she gets down like NOBODY on earth right now.
