Thailand's socialized healthcare develops HIV vaccine

Thailand, the tiny Asian country with a fully government-run socialized healthcare system, develops the worlds first vaccine that has shown any ability to prevent infection of the HIV/AIDS virus in some people.

The World Health Organization hails this breakthrough as proving that a universal AIDS vaccine is indeed possible and may be developed someday.

Special shout-out to all the Republican morons that argue that Socialized medicine stifles innovation and all major medical advances come from the United States.

The title is incorrect. The research is not funded by "socialized thai healthcare system". This research is being funded by the american tax payer and its technology is also from USA. Only the test itself is being conducted in Thailand.

One: The title doesn't say who the research is "funded by", so it is correct.

Two: If it is being "funded" by U.S. tax dollars (???), why wasn't the vaccine simply developed HERE?

The point made by the video is that the quality of research does not have to suffer (and can in fact be superior) in a country with a Socialized health care system.

I'm not sure where you got "the research is being funded by the U.S.".

There scientists, regardless of what kind of healthcare system they had, they could have found it out anyway, look at how fucked up thailand is, I'm sure you can see why.
