@ohiocanalgirl We wouldn't recommend owning any specie of wild cat, not only do they make terrible "pets' that spray everywhere and are dangerous, they don't want to be "pets" they are WILD animals that deserve so much more than to be stuck in a backyard cage.

thx for sharing yes lynx are wonderful cats an i agree the fur looks much better on the cat than on a jacket. you can never truely appreciate these powerful cats unless they are in thier natural habitats. they have so much to teach us, and they will as long as they are respected for being the living animal that they are.

i'll admit that the idea of wearing fur never really bothered me. like meat, it comes from animals and it's something we use, and have since the inception of our species. i never wanted to wear fur, but i wasn't against it. that's changed, largely because of things like fur farms, that i, ignorantly, had never really thought of.
look, a cow becoming beef becoming supper is one thing
15 lynx becoming a luxury item is another.
one is a necessity. the other is barbaric

"...any domesticated cats that have similar characteristics...the pointy ears, fluffy fur and hair on the chin?"
The Maine Coon Cat generally has "Lynx tipped ears", enormous feet tufted with long hair, quite large head with distinct "square" muzzle, thick water-repellent, double coat, gorgeous, thick "mutton Chops" with a copious flowing mane or ruff plus they are probably the largest true domestic cat. {25 Lb. not uncommon for males}

"...is it possible for a big cat to bond with a human so much...."
In Russia, {Siberia ?} there is a study of foxes in a fur farm having uncanny affection & attachment to their keepers. Many generations of selective breeding shows virtually dog-like behavior and are even kept as pets by affluent apartment dwellers.
An excellent article on this and the Russian PhD. who initiated/Continues the work was in the Nat. Geographic magazine last year. Can be found on their website.
I'm not some liberal freak but these animals should not be in cages. They're so amazing to see in the wild

Okay, just for my own information, what is the difference between a bobcat and lynx, and is there a good way to tell the difference at a glance?
onzanokooya 7 months ago
@onzanokooya Lynx are the larger of the two species, the best way to tell them apart is by the tips of the tails. Bobcats are black on top and white underneath, but lynx tails are black on the tip all the way around :)
