Is hand placement to preference? It looks like you're shoulder-width--if I were to put them closer in would that matter?

Shoulder width is ideal. Wider than that will be harder. You can also vary the grips: underhand, overhand and neutral grip. Neutral grip is best if you're working with a bar that has parallel handles.

Those are sternum chin ups! Switch your grip around for sternum pull ups.

Do you mostly do pull ups like this. If I did this for 6 moths would I see big gains
