Waltrip High School Seniors Gaither Oden and Zuleica Uribe members of The Class Of 2011 raised $700.00 to benefit The Rose. In an effort to make a difference and help raise breast cancer awareness, two HISD Waltrip High School seniors Zuleica Uribe and Gaither Oden coordinated a "Wear Pink Day" for a $2 donation and raised funds to contribute to The Rose, a non-profit breast cancer organization. The students presented the $700 donation, along with Waltrip employees and breast cancer survivors, to representatives from The Rose at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 30, at Waltrip's library (1900 West 34th, 77018). Coincidentally, Michelle Hanson from The Rose, who accepted the donation, is a Waltrip graduate.
The students made posters, wrote announcements, and collected money during lunch during a two-week period. The Rose is a non-profit breast cancer organization that provides mammography screening, diagnosis, access to treatment, and support to women.
