The most beautiful violinist of the 21 century is my wife but I fear she only plays in our own living room.

Arguably the most beautiful violinist of the 20th (and 21st century), Mutter certainly takes a very aggressive shot at the Kreutzer. Unfortunately, she thinks that adding slight pauses and letting her virbrato squeel at the end of phrases is good musicianship. Intriguing is her approach to deliberately distort tempos and the flow of the music in an age where everyone seems to only try to play as smoothly as possible. For that, she provides an interesting view that is worth hearing.

Not a fan of this version.

@Nthje Actually there were no big words in the comment - and if you understood the music and knew the recordings of great violinists like Heifetz, Perlman, et al in this piece, you would understand that Mutter is unconventional, adds slight breaks in the music (not a big word or statement) and changes tempos unlike the majority of other top violinists in the work. But perhaps you like her playing, and not the Perlman/Ashkenazy or Heifetz/Rubinstein. Or maybe you prefer Grateful Dead.

@classicalalways you talk with big words, but dont realy say anytihng

@stechino123 I can understand "I prefer so and so". I don't understand pretending to be objective on this performance and saying "this is awful". If for a second you were to contemplate that there may be tens of thousands of violinists who play this piece, i wonder what term you would use to describe the rest of humanity. She may not be as beautiful as my wife but this is to me a great raw interpretation (both her and Orkis, up there with the best, no less) and amazing for being live.

I tend to agree with you. Mutter being who she is, who can argue againts her initiatives? The way this masterpice SHOULD be played has been defined by Szeryng, but I guess we can allow some "different opinions" on occasions... just to reinforce the conviction that Szeryng's interpretation will remain the undisputable reference forever.

@TheDystopiaInside - they are very good too (of course...) but they don't do the first repeat so they are poor value for money, relatively speaking...

Superba interpretare.

I think the pianist here is fine. The best performance I've heard of this would have to be Pearlman/Ashkenazy though.

too slow,pianist not perfect.
look at Akiko Suwanai,Berezovsky-perfect!

Mutter could choose any pianist in the world but I can see why she prefers Orkis. They are both superb. More than superb - supersuperb!
