This was the last story I did during my summer session at the University of Texas at Austin. This project was a bit rushed, but i think it turned out alright. It is a story examining home fitness programs like P90x compared to regular gym memberships. This video features body building champion Dave Goodin.

  • One of the biggest probs with programs like p90x is loss of muscle alongwith loss of fat. Without muscle you will most likely gain your fat back and not your muscle! Ps nice reporting. I would have like to have seen you really work on the bodybuilder though. He's obviously on steroids to be that old and that muscular. Our bodys don't produce enough testosterone at that age (late 40s to mid 50s?) to maintain that much muscle.

  • @SilverStar40 He has actually been profiled as one of the Natural Body Builders, meaning he doesn't use steroids. He says he has worked to get that body for over 30 years. He says that just because someone is big, doesn't mean they are on roids, it all depends on how fast they got their results. I don't know all the details, but he is a pretty big name in body building.

  • P90X seems like it's marketed to the corporate exec or career guy who has very little free time to go to the gym. Plus, from what I understand it's not for people who never workout. It's for guys who took time off from working out and need to lose a few lbs.

  • @onikuno I actually got the program after spring break. I hit it hard for about 5 weeks but once summer classes started I took a break (just an excuse). But during that time i dropped 10 pounds. I just started it again Monday, so hopefully I will finish it this time, if you played sports in high school, the workouts or nothing new, but it does get you moving, i like it.

  • @CowboyTD Not really a big name, and the WBBF doesn't drug test so it's impossible to know if he's clean

  • Well of course a trainer isn't going to like p90x, it takes away potential clients!

  • nice vid.......that gal was pumped

  • "There's no way I'm gonna sit in front of a television an do anything."

    -Brook Jones, resident badass-

    P90X is not his style

  • My favorite part is the cocky guy, Brook Jones. Typical reason a lot of people don't go to the gym. Then again, he is just covering for having the name "Brook".

  • Your right CowboyTD. If felt bad after posting that comment. That was a pretty strong accusation I made against a guy that has made a life out of the "natural" body building world. And I admit I have zero evidence of steroid use. Not even a rumour. I have just seen a lot of pics of him on the web and he is a beast! Props to him!!

  • Awesome stuff!

  • Great reporting video, Garrett.
