The ending of Lufia 2 is possibly the most depressing thing I've ever seen in a SNES game. Most RPGs have happy
conclusions, where good triumphs over evil, but this one is incredibly bittersweet. I know a lot of you probably aren't familiar with the game, so I'll try to summarize what happens (this will be a bit of a spoiler for anyone who hasn't beat this game, so be warned.)

After finally defeating the 4 Sinistrals, Maxim and Selan (the main characters of the game and husband/wife) sacrifice themselves to prevent the Sinistral's fortress from destroying the town where their newborn son is staying. As the remaining party members remember and mourn them, the spirits of the two heroes float across the world, watching the scenes unfold below. Finally, they rest floating above the house where their child suddenly wakes up and calls for his mother. His nurse comforts him, saying that his parents saved the world and that they'll be back soon.

Such an emotionally powerful ending needs equally moving music to go along with it, and "To the Future" matches up perfectly. I love the almost mournful flute and guitar strumming, and how the piece builds toward the end (and yes, I realize it sounds like an 80's pop/rock song at some parts)

This video actually has both ending songs in it, but since I couldn't decide which one I liked better and they're essentially the same song, I put in both :).

  • i cried a lot during the ending... lufia 1 and 2 are so overlooked. shame.

  • I played really many rpgs but i have to say, that Lufia is still the best in my opinion. The soundtrack is great, the story is really good, there is much to do and much to explore and the end was overwhelming.

  • @MrGENOCIDEGeorge Especially the last part is so damn sad and I never can hold back my tears there.

  • Very underrated story. I admit I cried too.

  • @Cr0noo zsnes and save states, most definitely

  • you may have saved the world and future of mankind and all whats living for........but you never beat ancients cave

  • Responder a este vídeo... t's one of my favourite Rpgs, but still I kinda like more the "Tales Of" saga, apart of that and Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger i trully think this is one of the best Rpgs ever made. And possibly it is the Rpg with best Soundtrack and Ending.

  • The part that got me to cry was when Tia did, she finally found the one thing that could get hear tears flowing... Maxim, heh struggling not to cry typing this =), tis useless

  • This track is titled "Peace of Mind," if I recall correctly. Still an amazing piece.

  • 1 men on the earth have no heart

  • I start to hear the ending and i beginn to crie. (RIP Maxim & Selan.) :(
