If you add fresh food waste regularly enough. "Daily" you shouldn't have a problem with it being to dry. I add to the pile daily with kitchen scraps and coffee grounds and cover with new dry material like leaves or wood chips from the mulcher. Weekly I mix the whole pile up and check for heating.
Thank you for the tips. I got a compost bin and now I realize that I need to add air to it, and maybe more brown matter. I saw some squirmy insects in there and I'm afraid of them - silly, I know, but I can't help it. Is there a way to avoid getting bugs?
It is amazing how a tall pile breaks down in such a short time. thank you for all the good tips.

the "bugs" are doing the work...if they bother you just wear gloves when dealing with your bin
