'Rest for the Weary', the original recording by the Gospelaires of Dayton, Ohio.
There is no information on the long-play album from which I have taken this song-- 'Golden Gems of Gospel', Peacock PLP140; however, other sources attribute the falsetto vocalizing to Rev. Charles McLean (photo). The singing and playing are moving and excellent, but the falsetto makes the performance outstanding.

  • are you a producer?

  • No. Except that I am the producer of the videos I upload to YouTube!

  • i need this cd i work at a radio station

  • In reply to you, derrickheard, and to scarlett24ca, please note that my Description specifies the source from which this upload comes-- an LP, not a CD; none of my uploads is from a CD. I do not know how you can get this song on CD or whether it might even be available. But you can download it from here, and the result should be of broadcast quality, if you wish to air it.

  • Rest for the Weary Yeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • Did the Guitar player pass? Was his name J J Hawkins who also played for the Violinaires and Blind Boys?

  • I enjoy the gospel song that I heard, thanks to Mr. Jerome Arnold who is keeping the artist going. Thank you for the chance to hear great gospel. KW.

  • A great band backing them i pretty sure that this is the Blues Allstars. They were a three piece band.Lafayette Leake;Piano.Willie Dixon;Upright Bass.and Clifton James Drums.

  • A, come on stop the bickering lets all enjoy this great music.

  • Thanks Richard1011000, yes I do remember it being on a 45 when I was a teenager back then. They did perform it in Buffalo and everone loved it..I had the 45 back then, of course I have no clue when it vanished from me. Wish I had it today. It was a beautiful song.

  • It was issued on Peacock 3079 and does have Charles on lead, the reverse is "When I Get In Glory" which has Paul on lead.

Unfortunately it's part of the nine singles Peacock issued in the 60's which have not appeared on LP.

  • Has anyone ever heard the song, Never Grow Old,... that I think Charles also was the lead singer on?
