CBS footbal coverage in the 80's: the gold standard. No dancing robots, no rediculous pre-game show, just solid coverage and above average analysis.

Damn, there were some amazing football teams in the NFC back then. The 49ers, Redskins, Bears, Giants...even the second tier teams like the Vikings and the Rams were still pretty good!

I'm from Charlotte, so that very brief snipet of the WBTV promo caught my attention right off. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out who that is at the weather map.
Of course, the CBS intro from back in the day is always a welcome sight. Love whistling to the music.

CBS always had the best intros.
Pat and John were also the best people to ever cover games.
I miss them being together and those intros that were put together with music.
Nothing like it.

@quietriotfan1976 No he doesn't, at least not on the NFL Network "America's Game" documentary about this season. He acknowledged that starting Brunner over Simms was a huge mistake in that doc.
And, for what it's worth, Simms was injured for a big chunk of '81 and all of '82. Brunner never earned the starting job, Simms couldn't play.
And Joe Pisarcik was the quarterback in Simms' first year in 1979. Brunner didn't join the Giants until 1980 and was cut after '83 -- wasn't there five years.

i miss pat summerall. soothing voice, perfect for a big football game, does'nt make it all about him, just makes the call and does'nt talk too much. he does'nt show a lot of emotion or excitement, but he's the only annoucer who can get away with that. certainly better than that faggot joe buck (when he's not lapping aikman's sack)
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Sims was a medicore quarterback who benefited from a great defense. The fact that he was named SB MVP, and has been with CBS so long is proof there isa satan, and Sims has sold his soul to him.

Moron he was 22-25 which still stands as a record today for highest completion percentage, that's why he was the mvp. who do you root for btw
