They are all separate races which were around a long time before there was a "Triple Crown." I think there was even a year back in the twenties in which the Preakness wasn't even held. I forget the reason.

@ Senerian, sorry doesn't work that way. In order to be the TC winner one must face all the challenges that comes his way. Whether it be the distances, competitors, fast sloppy track etc.. Also, it would be a slap in the face for the past TC winners.
