I think it less about facing mortality and more about the human mind being unsettled by something that mimics the human form but decidedly is not. These "fake humans" bother us, because they look similar to us, but are 'twitchy' and 'off.' It's the same feeling of uneasiness we get when exposed to some psychopaths and sociopaths. They are disconnected from what the brain recognizes as common and normal human behavior.

The claim about death is idiotic. They weird us out because they resemble deformed, possibly diseased human beings, which evolution has crafted us to be wary of.

I agree with you to a point but Racism can stem from other things as well. A lot of black people hate white people just because 200 years ago white people owned slaves and 50 years ago they didn't have equal rights and some white people opposed it. So even though I haven't done anything negative to someone they could hate me. Example 2 if someone said your parents were murdered by Koreans when you were young and you had never met a Korean but were told they did terrible things you may hate them.

Some people get unsettled by animation that gets borderline real. There's an anime that's come out recently that proves this.

The "valley" refers to the dip in a graph of the comfort level of humans as a function of a robot's human likeness. "Uncanny" is an adjective that describes a disturbed and freaked-out emotion.
