I purchased this car over the phone. It hadn't been running in about 2 years and the owner had no idea what was wrong with it. It had sat in the back of a shop's lot for over a year until the bank decided to sell the car to them. They tried to get it started, but couldn't figure it out. I had her flatbedded to my place and within 45 minutes ...

  • The tank was drained, but there was still some old fuel in the lines. I should have had it cleaned out, true, but it wasn't enough to cause enough damage.

  • what a moron you cant just start a fucking car that was sitting for years.

  • You can if you've already had the oil changed, fluids topped off and belts checked.

  • so what was the outcome ? nice find! clean texas car too! would love to hear how things with the S4 are working out for you at this point

  • Yes this was the car of my dreams back in 1977 as a 9 year old and vowed one day I would have one,and did back in 2000 with a red 85 s2 and then an s4 a couple of years later. Now I have a very late 1995 928 gts,one of the very last to come to the uk...Ill never sell it no matter what.

  • @DavidOnBass - well I am glad we are the same page. This shows how important it is to make sure that we are always commenting on what was actually said, and not comment on perceived insults.

And I don't live in Europe, I live in Canada. I can't just go down to the parts store expect to find reasonable prices. There are no local businesses in competition to offer after-market 928 parts. There's one place within 100 miles of me, and it is in the USA. Sucks.

  • @homerthompsonman i stand by the fact that parts are easy to get and not more expensive than to other cars. infact I had a Audi coupé before and that car was for me more expensive in parts. In USA there is 4 internetstores specialized in 928 and thats where I buy my parts even thou I live in sweden.

But I have to agree about this car because i saw the other videos after my first comment. I just reacted to your comment cause thats what people think when they hear 928 even the well maintained

  • @DavidOnBass - Yes I own one. And like you it is NOT my daily driver. Most of what you say is misleading. Getting parts "from the right places" is the trick isn't? And have you ever bothered to just count the number of pieces in these things?

But mostly you just missed my point to this guy. He is not starting with a complete and well cared for car. Apples-to-apples, this car is going to be more of a nightmare to get sorted out and back to full power than many other cars. That's it.

  • @homerthompsonman Have you ever owned a 928? Its probably the easiest car that i have worked with and I´m no mechanic. I can do all myself and al parts are easy to get and not more expensive than to other cars if you buy them from the right places.

Had mine for 4 years now and so far nothing has roke on it and all I have done is just service it. The drivetrain on the 928 is bulletproof.

I know that what you say is its reputation but the reality is reliable and it has a big market of parts

  • Nice so What was wrong with it i recently purchased a 1979 928 that has been sitting for 9 yrs needs some tlc but has 800 bucks worth of new tires, has new headliner, dash, gage cluster, sprakplug wires, distributer and cap, and some bushings with $300 worth of shop manuals. I picked this car up for $200 from and elderly couple that didnt know what to do with it or how to work on it talk about one hell of a deal. and a great find. can wait to get mine up and running.

  • Cool! And if you are a certified Porsche mechanic with an engineering degree and a bottomless bank account, you might one day get this 928 as nice as one that has been properly cared for all its life!

So, cheers to not caring about line between courage and recklessness! Fortune will have to favor you, unless you have an IQ in the double digits!

  • wow not bad. 90's model eh? i'm looking at a 87 S4 Standard! HAHA! 5.0 litre, under 9 grand how can you go wrong. only issue is that there is a leak where the rear console is, where the light is I think it's the anntenna but not to sure. you had the issue yet??
