Saying that TaiJi has no combat application is a common View held by those who are yet to encounter or experience TaiJi in its true form.

Ah, the art of uprooting...one does not believe it until they experience this. Done effectively, it feels as if the user is a cocked catapult at the time right b4 the URing; then, with the opponent's center of gravity and balance falling into the arm of the catapult...at that point a rotation of the hips inward, followed through with a push upwards and out...very effective.

great! real Tai Chi...great training methods...great skills...a pleasure to watch
-
i liked how the clip contained a soft approach and striking without the use of hard or brute force
-
It seems that you have no idea what Tai-chi is whatsoever .

this is not bullshit people, i have not trained with theses guys but my teacher does the same type off applications to us and takes our balance / root and makes use of any borrowed force and can redirect any attacking force. 99% of Taiji out there is crap 1% is for martial application. thanks for sharing the great vid

1:43 is talking about substantial/insubstantial - is that with reference to weight bearing? I've read about this, but isn't that just shifting weight? How does the arm become substantial and insubstantial? thanks in advance for any insight.

the arm becomes substantial when the jin travels through it, it is not tension. it is not mass either as you can see sifu used just a finger to bounce a 100kg guy from almost stand still. best is to try to make it to the next seminar.
