Actually he's not. If you ever meet and talk with him (which is easy to do - just hang around after a Wilco concert and he WILL talk with you as he does with EVERYBODY who wants to) or watch any interviews with him he's as non-egotistical an electric guitarist as I've ever known.
His musical tastes are rather non-mainstream, but he doesn't seem to be in the business he's in for himself, rather for MUSIC.
I encourage you to meet him and then form an opinion.

oh man, how the hell did they do that just the two of them? this is one of the most delicate, loving, beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
