This is Part 2 of a 2 part series on snare wires and sympathetic snare buzz. Bob proves that snare wires are crucial in creating a "signature" snare drum sound. It includes a workshop and drum set demos. This is a real eye-opener!

  • I dont like to use mufflers on my toms cuz i like the decay of them without but i do muffle my snare a bit still i get more buzz than i like especially when i kick my bass drum which actually is muffled any more advise for my problem? i have a 12 strand but i dont have a die cast hoop yet

  • @enjoichoclate5 There are 2 elements that need to be balanced to "decrease" snare buzz. Pitch- try pitching the BD higher and lower to determine which generate the least amount of snr buzz. Experiment with more pressure of the internal muffler applied to the head. Not much more you can do...it's a balancing act... Good luck!

  • @bobgatzen Thanks for the help! im guna get a new kit soon cuz im just tired of mine now so on the new 1 i ill experiment with everything i can

  • @enjoichoclate5

Cool... now I want you to repeat the word EXPERIMENT every morning you wake in bed...

EXPERIMENT... EXPERIMENT... EXPERIMENT... EXPERIMENT... EXPERIMENT...EXPERIMENT... EXPERIMENT...EXPERIMENT...EXPERIMENT... EXPERIMENT!

  • Hey bob, great videos! Competely agree about less snares. I have a 12" Musashi that I got a few weeks ago. First I tried a 20 strand snare and realized it was way too much. Went down to 12, and it was a nice sound, but I decided to go even lower. Cut it down to an 8 strand and it sounds really great. Tons of tone and just enough buzz to keep it sounding like a snare.

The snare sound is really awesome by the way! What batter head are you using? I might have to try a clear on mine!

  • @smoae75 Coooooooola! ahhhh... nothing like good news! Yeah, I switch back & forth between 12 -24's. I like variety! Check out the new "Custom Pro" line from Puresound Snares.

  • @SpankyTheYankee That's great to hear Spanky! You gotta try the new Puresound snares I recently designed. Please check out the "Custom Pro" line. The 20-steel wire steel wires are one of my faves !

  • I hadn't realized I already had the secret formula of the cast rim on the bottom and flanged on top. I was already liking it a lot because 1. the top cast rim I removed was a stick chopper and 2. the triple flange rim I put on is kinder to my sticks and my ears like it too. Now I've got to get a 12 strand wire set and beat the battle of the buzz with a little tweaking. Maybe this info wasn't on Bob's old VHS video I learned to tune from!

  • @CCCdrumview good news feels good!...thanks for writing back C!!

  • I appreciate these tips brother
