THEKPV began in 2008 by me Terry Hope. I had worked as an engineer aboard Copper Sky. An 88ft steel haul sailboat. The captain would not allow a full size electric scooter.. I had only one option.. design a vehicle that will fit inside a suitcase.

kers bike & kinetic energy charging ultracapacitor turnigy watt meter power analyzer
ultracapacitor escooter saving energy information !

e bike scooter with KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) technology like F1 racing cars.
Momentum converted into power re-charging ultracapacitor.
Velocity converted into 12.5 volts shown on watt meter.

Measurements taken with
Turnigy Precision Watt Meter And Power Analyzer

Electric motor rotates only the freewheel mechanism requiring approx. 13.2 watts at 1.4 amps
switched polarity to electric motor changing the rotation and turning the whole back wheel assembly using approx. 9.1 watts or only 1.04 amps

Using a rheostat as load to efficiently adjust the power output thekpv system can harvest or regenerate power for a light or charge the Maxwell BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor while adding minimal wheel rotational drag. Which I believe can be precisely tuned or adjusted to the ebike e scooter, and the rider's weight.

Finally, I increase DC power supply to approx. 19-20 volts

The freewheel requires 2 amps, 19.6 volts or 41 watts
while the entire wheel requires approx. 27 watts or 1.34 amps at 20.46 volts

I have to admit I completely forgot that the brushed DC motor draws more power in one direction compared to the other.

Inspirations include ultracaps, and that of formula one / F1 racing, and Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS).

More to come 2010/2011

  • Your voice over is so helpful, oh wait... =P

But really, can you explain what this all means in practical terms?

  • So what you are are saying in layman terms is that you harvest about 4 watt per rotation that goes into your battery pack/capps?

And then from there you drive the bike from the pack, so what is your range with this setup it cannot be a perpetuem mobile?

And what if you would be able to cycle to generate more and extend the range even more.

Maybe even balance it that you could drive it all day at about say 15 km /hour??

    Keep up the good work

    MJ
