This recording is great, but it's not the best. :)
The best recording EVER is with the London Symphony Orchestra with Michael Tilson Thomas as the conductor.
They are very similar (durr, same orchestra), but I prefer Tilson's recording. Even the violin solo in the second movement (Andante) is better than this one!
But the track that really stands out is Act 2 - No. 13 - Danse des cygnes - V - Pas d'action (Andante - Allegro)
It's INCREDIBLE!
You should give it a try.

Yes, this recording is amazing. And the fact that Ida Haendel plays the violin solos is just icing on the cake!

that's interesting ... this must be the original Tchaikovsky placement of the score which uses this music as a pdd among the rustics in Act I - most performances use this for the climactic Black Swan pdd in Act III these days - in fact it's hard for me to picture Act III without it
