  • I showed this to my mom and she remembers this so well! If you remember Adrienne Alpert, that's my momma!

  • Sign offs are very common back then since infomercials weren't invented back then.

  • The music in the background is Rising Star (love theme), which is from the soundtrack to the movie The Electric Horseman (1979) starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.

This is not the only track from the Electric Horseman used by television stations.

The Electric Horseman: Electric Horseman - used to open WSBT (CBS in South Bend, IN) Eyewitness News in the early-80s.

The Electric Horseman: Electro-Phantasma used by KENS (CBS) San Antonio and WAAY (ABC) Hunstville, AL.

  • Brilliant! My girlfriend has lived in the San Diego area her whole life, remembers this well, and tried to record it around 1983 or 84, but missed part of the beginning, so we're both glad someone else has a better copy! Thank you for posting this!

  • Do you think this is from the mid-1980's? That's what I'm guessing.

  • Sadly, we lost him in April of 1996. He was teaching Telecom at Grossmont College at the time.

  • How is your father doing? Where is he now?

  • I live in the Skyline area, probably from near the town where the KGTV studios is. They are located next to the freeway 54.

  • They just don't have as many polished baritone voices like your dad's on tv anymore..what a pro..I first appeared on KGTV as a kid in 1974 with bob mills...

  • I am Don Settle's daughter. Bill Sweet was an engineer at the station, and that was a one time deal to wish him a happy retirement.
