I wrote this little ditty to help liven up the Sing-a-Long for our school's Grandpersons Day. My apologies to any Pilgrims, Native Americans, or lovers of rap music.
I had a request to post the lyrics:
THE MAYFLOWER RAP
Gather round people, and listen to my tale
In 1620 the Mayflower set sail.
It was loaded with Pilgrims who were hopin' to be free.
They came from England and they sailed across the sea.
There were women and daughters, there were men, there were boys -
A whole lot of people and they made a lot of noise.
In late December, they reached Plymouth Rock
But there was no town there, not even a path to walk.
That first winter was hard, there was no food to eat
The Pilgrims were afraid they had met their defeat.
Then a quite amazing thing happened one day,
Some Native Americans wandered their way.
They showed the Pilgrims how to find food, and plant crops, too,
It wasn't long before their first harvest was due.
The Pilgrims celebrated, and "Thanks!" they did say,
And that's why we celebrate Thanksgiving Day!
